Throughout the month of December the Alexandria SBDC will be highlighting some of our clients to get an inside scoop of what their holiday season looks like.
Business Name: Monday’s Child
How long have you been in business in Alexandria? 42 years! My mom shopped for me at Monday’s Child when I was little and I bought the business 4 years ago.
Tell me a little about your business: Monday’s Child is a children’s boutique in the Crilley Warehouse, specializing in classic clothing sizes newborn to 12. A shopping destination for over 40 years, we offer a beautiful selection of baby gifts, baptism gowns, special occasion and play clothes, the area’s largest selection of First Communion apparel, shoes, books, toys, monogramming and more. We love helping our customers find the perfect gifts and timeless outfits for important events and everyday play!
How has the SBDC supported your business? My business would not be thriving without the support and constant help of the SBDC. I had no business ownership experience when I bought the store in 2018 and the SBDC has helped me every step of the way. From drafting a business plan, securing a loan with a local bank to offering great networking events and webinars. I’m so grateful for the guidance and encouragement from Jack Parker. The SBDC is such an incredible resource.
Something unique you are doing this holiday season with your business. Any holiday deals? We offer complimentary gift wrapping all year, but we’re especially busy this time of year. We pride ourselves on helping customers pick the perfect gift; we wrap and can ship presents with a special card. We always strive to make gift giving as easy as possible for our customers.
Favorite thing about the holiday season in Alexandria: Alexandria is so festive. Old Town feels extra magical with all of the lights and decorations up and down King Street. I have 3 young boys and we love to kick off the holiday season with the Scottish Christmas Walk and the Boat Parade. The Santa Train is always a must for us!
Something you are thankful for: Amazing support and local shopping from our community. I’m EXTREMELY thankful for having the best staff.
Favorite Alexandria business to visit during the holidays (besides your own): We are so lucky to have the best boutiques in our area: Bishop Boutique, The Hive, She’s Unique, Whistle Stop Hobbies, Bellacara, Red Barn Mercantile help me check so many gifts off my list. Dinner at Landini Brothers always feels extra special this time of year with all of their decorations and we make several trips to Greenstreet Gardens for our tree and trimmings – I love their pink poinsettias.
Favorite holiday tradition: We love going to the Children’s mass at St. Paul’s and then going to my parent’s house for Christmas Eve. We bake my grandmother’s Christmas sugar cookies and the boys get to open one present. We always end the night with matching Christmas pajamas.
Highlight of the year: This year has been our highest sales year yet! It blows my mind to see our sales grow every month both online and in store.
