Business Name: from politics to pastry 

How long have you been in business in Alexandria? Since February 2019.

Tell me a little about your business(es): from politics to pastry specializes in Italian cookies, custom pastry, and in-home baking and pasta instruction (currently all virtual via Zoom). My husband’s family is Italian, and after I worked in politics and law for 20 years, I decided to spend time focusing on my creative side, baking the Italian pastries we both love but couldn’t find in the DC area. 

How did you first learn about the SBDC? I believe my husband had suggested I reach out to the Small Business Association, generally, for assistance in deciding if and how to open a small business. When I researched SBA, I was thrilled to learn there was a local office in Alexandria, and even more happy when I found Gloria Flanagan, a fellow lawyer and baker, who helped me so much! 

Something unique you are doing this holiday season with your business(es): Baking lots and lots and lots of Italian cookies!!!! Our Holiday Cookie packages are always very popular — December is our busiest month. 

Favorite thing about the holiday season in Alexandria: The beautiful lights and decorations! You really can’t beat Alexandria for holiday spirit and decor. 

Something you are thankful for: My health and that of my family and friends. And so thankful to be able to be creative on a daily basis and bring people happiness, one cookie at a time.  

Favorite Alexandria business to visit during the holidays (besides your own): Not quite a holiday visit, but my husband and I always know the holidays are around the corner when we celebrate our November wedding anniversary with dinner from Nasime in Old Town. It’s such a fantastic gem. 

Favorite holiday tradition: Spending time with family and enjoying our Christmas tree! My Mom’s Pennsylvania Dutch potato filling is a close second.
