How long have you been in business in Alexandria? 21 years 

Tell me a little about your business:

Focus Data Solutions began in 2001 as a lunchtime musing between Page Moon and his friend and client, Becki Donatelli of Campaign Solutions. Page worked for a firm that was soon to close. Becki wanted to keep her service and Page’s expertise. After a few very quick conversations and some capital investment, Focus Data Solutions was born. We were so fortunate to be introduced to both the SBDC and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce the first week we incorporated. We cannot imagine our company without that early support. 

Over 20+ years, we’ve grown from a small email management firm with some IT support services to a Channel Futures MSP 501 worldwide leader in the small and medium-sized business (SMB) IT managed services arena. We are both woman-owned and veteran-owned. Our team is committed to providing DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland area businesses secure, reliable IT support. Our continued growth and success are not possible without the trust of our long-time clients, who have referred us to their peers. 

How has the SBDC supported your business? 

The Alexandria SBDC was instrumental in our startup process. We had our first meeting with them the day we incorporated in 2001. The SBDC team helped with business planning, introduced us to valuable resources (like our HR consultant, Patra Frame), helped us in our growth stages with education programs and networking, and lastly, we had the SBDC on speed dial for issues we did not expect. We are grateful for their continued support. 

Something unique you are doing this holiday season with your business. Any holiday deals? 

As a service firm, we don’t really do holiday deals. As a way of giving back, we sponsored a coat drive to benefit our client Pathforward, based in Arlington and donated food to ALIVE! 

Favorite thing about the holiday season in Alexandria: 

Alexandria is just the perfect holiday town.  We love the Del Ray Tree Lighting, the Scottish Walk, the Boat Parade, the Chamber’s Merry Membership event and just the general holiday cheer that permeates Alexandria. 

Something you are thankful for: 

We are very grateful for both our clients and our Focus Data Solutions team. Focus Data Solutions is the firm we are today because of our team’s commitment to service and the collaborative partnerships we make with our clients and peers in the Alexandria business community. 

Favorite Alexandria business to visit during the holidays (besides your own): 

It’s not Christmas if we are not shopping in Red Barn Mercantile and Penny Post. 

Favorite holiday tradition: 

At Focus Data Solutions, we’ve always done a White Elephant. It is hysterical and we love the competition. Two of our team members are still fighting over a Yoda mug.  We’ve included it almost every year. 

Highlight of the year: 

First highlight was being named to the Channel Futures MSP501 for the fifth time. It is a huge honor to be included on this list.  We hope to make it a sixth time! 

We are so happy to be back together in a hybrid work environment.  We restarted our famous Chili Cookoff, where our clients serve as celebrity judges. Our team comes up with some very, very interesting chili. (We were not able to have the event in 2020 or 2021 due to COVID) Our thanks to Fletcher Consulting and The National Society of Accountants for judging in 2022.
