Throughout the month of December the Alexandria SBDC will be highlighting some of our clients to get an inside scoop of what their holiday season looks like.
Business Name: VIDA STYLE
How long have you been in business in Alexandria? I opened my store on August 1, 2022.
Tell me a little about your business: My shop is a consignment shop for women and most recently, we started our men’s collection. We support small up and coming talented crafters by giving them store space to test the market. Consignment is blowing up, after the pandemic, especially. People want to be more conscientious about where they source their clothing. We contribute to a circular economy by using what is already here for as long as possible! Go Earth!
How has the SBDC supported your business? The SBDC provided me with advice and guidance on taking the first steps—in order—of starting my business. The biggest task was writing my business plan, which can take up to a year with many, many revisions involved; however, for those on a fast track, the SBDC’s business consultants can go at your pace. For me, I needed to go fast, and they happily accommodated me, which facilitated me starting my business sooner than I expected. I was partnered with Jack Parker, now one of my favorite people in my life! 🙂
Something unique you are doing this holiday season with your business. Any holiday deals? I will be engaging customers and potential shoppers/consignors with the 12 Days of Christmas, a fun interactive game that will come with prizes. I will also be offering free gift wrapping for my customers and weekend discount specials.
Favorite thing about the holiday season in Alexandria: Old Town has so many special events that make the holidays cheerful and merry. From the boat parade to the Scottish Walk and the Cookie Crawl to the tree lighting ceremony, there’s something for everyone. The residents also decorate their homes so nicely, and it’s nice to take a walk and gawk at all the lights!
Something you are thankful for: I have so many overall, but if I must list a group, I’d have to go with two: My loyal customers and consignors! They are the lifeblood to my business.
Favorite Alexandria business to visit during the holidays (besides your own): Line and Nest
Favorite holiday tradition: Decorating my tree. It’s a moment! Playing music and having A Christmas Story play quietly in the background.
Highlight of the year: June 30, the day I quit my job to start building VIDA STYLE.
